Andrew Bird was playing at The Pageant, touring with The Heartless Bastards. Now, usually I don't pay too much attention to opening bands because in my experience, they're usually not all that impressive. This often leads me to wonder why the main performers allow such bands to tour with them (as an audience member, I usually don't enjoy having to sit through an hour of lackluster musicianship to get to the main event). That said, I was promptly proved wrong by indie band Heartless Bastards [link] Praise the lord, they were actually on key! Anyway, I was impressed with their style and musicianship, as well as with the vocalist. Overall, it was a great performance.
And, on to the good stuff:
Flat out, Andrew Bird was astounding. Everything I expected and more. His first two songs he played by himself, making good use of a looping mechanism (Though he had a few issues getting the peddle work down at times).
He and his band members played some familiar tunes along with a good amount of new material, all of which sounded amazing.
There was improvisation in almost every song which only added to the experience. Andrew gave us probably the best version of Imitosis [link] that I have ever heard, though he deviated greatly from the album version.
Yeah, it was pretty much one of the best concerts that I have been to in a very long time. We looked for him afterward, hoping that he might be standing around somewhere greeting fans, but we unfortunately did not find him. I got a t-shirt though. ;D

Nice work, by the way. ^^
